ABOUT ME

I am a Reader in Education at Queen Margaret University, Edinburgh, Chartered Psychologist, Doctor of Clinical Science and Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. I have been working in Higher Education since 2001 having previously taught in secondary schools for 18 years.

I have been a UKCP registered Psychoanalytic Psychotherapist and within my present role I am interested in using psychoanalytic ideas and practices to understand how humans learn in formal and non-formal settings. I am also interested in how education influences and is influenced by relationships between the human and more-than-human world.

When not working I can be found watching birds, swimming in the sea, bobbing about in a kayak, camping in a massive tent, attracting bees to my garden and generally avoiding DIY. I am also one of the Joint Coordinators of the Kent Education Network and member of Comprehensive Future’s Selection Working Party.
